Curved piecing used to strike fear in the hearts of most quilters, but with some planning and a little finesse, this two-piece block never looked so good . . . or so easy.

The downloads in the side bar will help you get started on this easy and dramatic block.

Have you wanted to start an art quilt project but been afraid of the lack of structure? Well, here is fun way to break into the world of art quilts while still holding on to a stable and reliable block construction method.

The drunkard's path makes a wonderful art quilt. Looking at some of the layouts, you'll see why. If you want something a little more organic, check out the way using strip or diamond piecing in a project can take it from eye catching to mesmerizing.

Note:  The rendering above and in the side bar are made with the 9" template which uses a generous convex piece.  The finished quilt above uses the 9" template with the half-circle insert.

Resizing the Drunkard's Path

Want to try something different, fast, and charming?  Add a smaller curved piece to make smaller circles.  With vintage or themed fabrics these small circles can look cute as can be.  The renderings don't do them justice.

The template downloads at the bottom of the side bar are for 4-inch and 6-inch blocks, as well as for a block with a triangle piece to make diamonds (the picture above will show you what I mean).

Have Fun! Oh, and please visit my blog for more tips and some chat: Hidden Threads

If you enjoy the drunkard's path, keep checking back.  I'll be adding photos of my DP quilts and putting up more templates as ideas occur to me.
